I’ve always wanted to watch an a film at the Cornerhouse in Manchester, but never had the chance to before it closed down. However, in May this year, HOME (partly formed by the Cornerhouse) opened their doors to the public, showcasing independent and contemporary forms of art, film and theatre productions. They also have a gallery, and a restaurant/ bar with an amazing view over the north of Manchester (which I caught at sunset in the rain).
My first time visiting the building was during summer to visit their gallery, but it was closed for refurbishment. With the release of ‘He Named Me Malala’, a documentary spotlighting her passion for the rights of women’s education and the life of Malala Yousafzai, I only felt right to watch it at HOME where I could fully acknowledge the film as a documentary, and understand the context of the problems which were highlighted.
